I'm Back!

How do I begin to tell you all why my blog has been neglected for so long? Let's see....first, I had hurt my back pretty darn good which had put me out of commission for quite some time. It was all I could do to stand and do my hair in the morning. I even resorted to buying a wig to alleviate that problem. I hate wigs, hot and itchy! I was even having a hard time sitting. I still to this day do not know how it happened. I happened to have a slipped vertibrae, degenerative joint disease, and arthritis. Doc said it was all the rough housing over the years that did it. Second...I have been busy trying to get my new business up and running with photography. So much work involved in that process and is still ongoing! You can check it out here if your curious at . Third....The old mill that we have been working on is coming along fabulously! We hope to be in there by this summer! Whoohooo!. Sorry, I get excited about this. I will be posting many photos from this journey. You would not believe the changes that have been taken place already! I just can't wait to finally be able to decorate in there! Even though I have a bad back, I can and will continue to decorate.
Just to recap, here is the beginning of our major project/renovations on the old mill.
In these photos, We had just finished the railing that goes around the atrium which overlooks the downstairs livingroom area. We had kept some pretty cool, large mill gears. Another photo is looking up from the main floor looking at the railing. Never mind those corbels hanging up on each side of the soon to be bathroom. I told my hubby that I did not like them and they are now down. He tried. I will try to post another update when I can. We just finished all the floors in the mill with beautiful hardwood flooring. What a transformation it made. Can't wait to show you, but it is pretty dusty right now. I want to take photos of clean flooring. My hubby and I think that our store has sold. Just waiting to hear soon if they were able to get the financing. If so, wow we will be busy with dealing with store inventory, moving everything out, yada, yada, yada. So please be patient with me during our journey. I promise that there will be plenty of decorating photos to show you hopefully soon!

Invasion of bunnies

Invasion of Bunnies?  Well, kind of.  I decided that I am going to start my Easter decorating early and I thought that the chippy white mantel would be a great place to start.

I just love the pretty pastel colors that Spring and Easter bring (not to mention warmer weather).  I love to collect smaller size  bunnies in all shapes and sizes.  The smaller sizes work well to set in any space such as shelves, on dishes, table settings, baskets and well just about anywhere you want a touch of bunnies!

I would like to also thank everyone for your wonderful comments that I have been recieving.
It really means alot to me.  I am hoping to figure out how to add a reply button.  I am always fearful of tinkering around and then loose my blog or worse... you as a friend!  So if you have any questions, I will reply in another comment.

I love this Easter banner that I had purchased last year from the Pottery Barn on clearance!   Score!!!!  For $12.00

I had some dried branches that I added to a large ironstone pitcher and then added my mercury colored eggs that I had purchased on clearance sale last year at Pottery Barn.  Love a great bargain!

Here is a better picture of my favorite old quilt.  It has beautiful colors and quilting.  I had purchased it a few years ago at an antique show in Illinois while in Bishop Hill.  Please disregard that   black cord.  It has been so cold here in Wisconsin that we have used space heaters to help with sky rocketing costs of fuel.  So I see now that It should of been cropped out of picture.

See the lettering on this banner?  I think you could easily make one like this.  Burlap material and white material,  thick twine, paint and stencils and hot glue should be all you need to do this project.

Painted my huge kitchen island

Wow, 2 posts in the same day?  Well what else can a gal do when it's so blustery out?  Yesterday I got up the courage to paint an old long bottom cupboard that I have been using as an island for my kitchen due to the shortage of storage space and lack of counter top to work on.

It was a should I or shouldn't I kinda morning yesterday until late afternoon I said to myself "just do it".  The reason I wanted to paint it was that the top work surface was blotchy, dirty looking and did not clean well at all.  Besides I wanted to brighten up the kitchen a bit more.

This was a piece my husband had retrieved out of an abandoned house that was due to be demolished.  It was part of a built in cupboard.  Ah, got to love those old homes.  We have a couple of beautiful cupboards that I can't wait to show and tell that also came from a cottage home that was demolished by DNR.  They will be going into the kitchen of the mill.

So this island painted up nicely.  I used a pure white semi gloss paint so the surface would be washable and it really brightened up the kitchen.  No regrets from this gal!

I decided to add a new vignette to my island.  I had brought out a few jadite bowls (crazy for Jadite), some ironstone and a few smaller elements to add to it and oh, I found this cute old green stool when hubby and I went out antiquing yesterday.  I had also made a haul on some cool ironstone dishes for a great price!

There are several photos to share with you and I hope that you like my little Monday Makeover!  I would really love to have you join in my Makeover Monday link party and share your favorite makeover in your home.  Just go to the previous post to link up.  Have a wonderful blessed week!
